A family near Turag main road had a Suzuki Wagon R where the handbrake lever had been gradually rising higher over 4 months — requiring more clicks to engage and now needing 10 to 11 clicks to hold the car on any incline. As with many rear-drum-equipped small cars, the Wagon R handbrake adjustment depends on the condition of the rear brake shoes. Our technician removed both rear drums — the brake shoes had worn to 1.5mm remaining thickness, beyond the service replacement limit. The drum diameters were measured and were within specification. New rear brake shoes were fitted and the self-adjusters were reset and exercised to their correct position. The handbrake cables were inspected — the primary cable had stretched slightly, so cable adjustment was performed in addition to the shoe replacement. After adjustment, the handbrake engaged at 4 clicks.
