A young couple in an apartment near Ring Road in Shyamoli had a Suzuki Swift where the rear seat belt on the passenger side was completely locked — it would not extend at all. A seat belt that is completely locked and cannot extend indicates either the inertia reel is jammed in the locked position from a previous sharp pull or sudden stop, or the reel's locking mechanism has mechanically stuck. Our technician assessed the Swift's rear seat belt — the reel was stuck in the locked position and resetting it by allowing the belt to reset to its wound position and then pulling slowly did not release the lock. The inertia reel internal locking pawl had bent during what appeared to have been a significant sudden stop. The rear seat belt assembly was replaced. On the same visit, the Swift's car AC was making a hissing sound from behind the dashboard — specific to operating at idle when external noise was minimal. Our technician traced the hissing to a cracked refrigerant hose at the firewall where the hose passed through to the engine bay — the crack was small enough to produce a sound without significant gas loss yet.
